This event is a release event and discussion of the new book on the NSK State in Time, Weapons of Mass Instruction, edited by Alexander Nym.

More Information on the book:
NSK & the State: Founded in 1991,after Slovenia’s secession from the crumbling Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, NSK State in Time was conceived as both a continuation and dissolution of artist movement Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK),which had emerged in Ljubljana in 1984. While the remaining federal states went on to slaughter each other, NSK State offered the artistic vision of a global state without borders and without territory, a state consisting of “the concrete body warmth, the spirit and the work of its members” – the citizenship of which is open to everyone, worldwide. In time, citizens began to create their own artworks, events and performances based on the diverse aesthetics, techniques and contents provided by NSK founding groups Laibach, Irwin and theatre group Noordung, and complementing them in theory and practice.

During the 1st NSK Citizens’ Congress at Berlin’s House of World Cultures in 2010, citizens took the state into their own hands, ushering in a new phase of unprecedented partisan activities.Weapons of Mass Instruction documents NSK State in the phase following the Berlin Citizens’ Congress right up to the last actions before the pandemic break, and turns the view towards alternate ideas of statehood in the mirror of this State in Time – this abstract, totalitarian unit encompassing art and politics, theory and practice, as well as dystopian doubt and utopian idealism.
