Event title: Unusual suspects in identity research – An introduction to the Handbook of Research Methods for Studying Identity in and around Organizations.

In this seminar, Ingo Winkler, Stefanie Reissner and Rosalía Cascón-Pereira will introduce some of the unusual research methods covered in their Handbook of Research Methods for Studying Identity in and around Organizations, which will be published by Edward Elgar in July 2023. They will also discuss how innovative research methods can provide novel insights into social and organizational phenomena. Shoba Arun will act as a discussant.

Biographies:

Ingo Winkler is an Associate Professor for Organization and Leadership at the University of Southern Denmark and has a Dr habil from Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. Grounded in a social constructionist view, his research interests cover the areas of identity and identification, leadership theory, managerial control, resistance, and organizational change. He has published his research in various journals, such as the Journal of Change Management, Higher Education Quarterly, and the International Journal of Management Reviews.

Stefanie Reissner is Professor of Work and Organization Studies at Essex Business School. Stefanie’s research interests are identity, narrative / storytelling, and interpretive work / sense making in contemporary organizational contexts as well as qualitative research methods (particularly research interviewing and researcher reflexivity). Her work has been published in major peer-reviewed academic journals, such as Work, Employment & Society, Public Administration, European Management Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and Journal of Business Ethics.

Rosalía Cascón-Pereira (PhD)is Associate Professor in HRM at University Rovira I Virgili, in Tarragona (Spain). As a professional hybrid (economist and health psychologist), her research focuses on social identity in its multiple manifestations: professional, cultural, chronically ill,ethical consumer and expatriates’ identities. Other research interests are in workplace meetings, emotions, meanings and healthcare management research. Her articles have been published in journals such as Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, British Journal of Management, Journal of Consumer Culture, Journal of Pain, Business Research Quarterly, Social Science and Medicine, Thinking Skills and Creativity, Journal of Geography in Higher Education and Organization Studies. She develops her professional career also as a health psychologist and a HRM consultant.
